PORT JERVIS DOG YARD

The Port Jervis Dog Yard is accessed through the Sav-A-Lot parking lot.

RULES AND REGULATIONS

Dog Park closes at dusk daily.

No animals other than dogs may be brought into the fenced area.

All dogs must be leashed until safely inside the dog park and returned to a leash prior to exiting. Make sure gates are closed after entering and leaving the park.

Do not leave a leash on dogs in the park. Bring your leash into the park in case of emergency or altercation.

Dog owners must remain in the fenced area while their dogs are using the dog park. Owners must be in view of their dogs and have voice control at all times.

Children accompanying dog owners must be strictly supervised and at least 12 years old to be allowed inside unless accompanied by an adult.

Children under 10 years old not allowed in large dog area. (Some dogs see children as prey)

Children under 5 years old not allowed in the park at all.

Spectators should remain outside the fenced area.

Aggressive dogs and dogs in heat are not allowed.

Owners must immediately leash and remove dogs from the dog park at the first sign of aggressive behavior.

Please be courteous to others do not bring sick dogs to the park.

Owners must dispose of waste properly in the designated on-site containers. Owners must prevent dogs from digging holes.

While small bite-sized training treats are permitted, foods in bowls, long-lasting chews, or glass containers are not allowed.

Owner must provide own drinking bowl for dog.

No Smoking and no food are allowed inside of the dog park.

No more than three (3) dogs per person are allowed on any single visit.

Puppies less than four (4) months old are not permitted in the park.

Dogs must licensed and vaccinated for rabies and DHLPP. Current license and rabies tags must be worn on the dog’s collar at all times.

Owners are liable for any injury or damage caused by their dog and are fully responsible for their dog’s actions.

Trainers are not allowed to use the park to conduct business.

Any incident, problem etc. should be reported to Port Jervis Recreation and Parks 845-858-4045. Office is open Monday thru Friday 8:30 to 4pm.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
IS THERE A FEE TO USE THE DOG YARD?
There is a fee for non-residents. You may contact 845-858-4014. There is no fee for city residents, but all dogs must have a valid license and have up-to-date rabies, distemper and bordetella vaccinations.
WHY ARE YOUNG CHILDREN DISCOURAGED FROM USING THE DOG YARD?
For the safety of all users, there may be several animals and larger dogs that are running in the enclosure that may run into smaller children.
WHY CAN'T I BRING FOOD AND TREATS INTO THE DOG YARD?
The Dog Park is for recreation use only and not for training purposes.
Bringing food into the Park may attract other animals that could become more aggressive and trigger a fight when food is around.
WHY MUST DOGS BE AT LEAST 4 MONTHS TO ENTER THE DOG YARD?
Puppies will not be fully immunized until they have completed their full series of vaccinations.
WHY ARE LEASHES DISCOURAGE IN THE DOG YARD?
Leashes can cause a tripping hazard, and dogs on a leash may feel more insecure because they can’t escape if they need to and may trigger a fight.
